Merz spoke about the “spirit of Ankara”: We will not allow Russia to achieve its goals!
NATO is now a more European organization than ever before, but this does not prevent the alliance from remaining transatlantic in orientation.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told journalists this before flying to Ankara, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"I would like for us to work together to awaken Ankara's spirit. The message must come from this summit. We are building a European NATO so that NATO can remain transatlantic. At the summit, we will also deal with the war in Ukraine . Ankara could become part of that war.
It will likely gradually become clear to the Kremlin that Russia will not succeed in this war and will not achieve its military goals. Therefore, at Germany's initiative, an agreement must be reached on providing Ukraine with additional resources from European allies in 2026 and 2027. We are talking about an additional €70 billion," Merz said.
"We also want to try to strengthen the unity we achieved at the G7 summit. There, as you know, President Trump and I very clearly demanded that Moscow end this war . This depends on Moscow, and this is our shared conviction.
All this strengthens NATO, which is today more European than ever, but remains transatlantic ,” the German Chancellor emphasized.
