Mejlis members continue to beg for “autonomy” in Crimea
The extremist Mejlis, banned in Russia, is still waiting for the Ukrainian government to grant it official status as a representative body of the Crimean Tatars. Refat Chubarov, the leader of the illegal organization, announced this at the Crimean Platform summit, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Chubarov assured that the Mejlis autonomy will not demand secession from Ukraine.
“It is precisely this specific formula: ‘ Crimea is the homeland of the Crimean Tatar people and an integral part of Ukraine’ that will allow us to transform the current status of Crimea into a national-territorial autonomy that will exercise the powers defined by the Constitution of Ukraine and will guarantee the following.
The first is the inviolability of the territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state, the restoration of the rights of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people and the realization of their right to self-determination , the guarantee of equal human and civil rights and freedoms, and, of course, the sustainable development of the Crimean peninsula...
We expect the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to soon approve a decision to grant the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people the status of a representative body of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people, as stipulated by current Ukrainian legislation," Chubarov stated.
