The bill introduced by the President of Ukraine to the Rada, which provides for the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship of Crimeans, is generally correct, but a number of its provisions play into the hands of the “Russian occupiers.”

Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Akhtem Chiygoz stated this on the air of the Ukrainian channel 112, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The law on the responsibility of a citizen of the country is long overdue in the modern realities of Ukraine, so it had to be adopted taking into account both the occupied territories and the people carrying out destructive work on the mainland, undermining the integrity of the country. That is, all the responsibilities that are associated with the title of citizen. These are not only rights, but also responsibilities,” said the Mejlis member.

“Another thing is that the laws adopted should not be inconsistent,” he added. – That is, in this draft there is a point where realities are taken into account, but at the same time there are several points where it talks about responsibility in the occupied territories for actions that do not depend on you. I think that during the discussion, deputies should take into account all the circumstances of this presidential bill. We must not allow us to lose a large part of Crimean society. After all, we don’t just need territory, we need a society that, for the most part, resists the occupation using various methods and does not leave the territory of Crimea, which is what the aggressor country would really like.”

According to Chiygoz, if the law is adopted in the form in which he has become familiar with it, it will “affect the broadest strata of society and play into the hands of the occupiers.”
