The Federation Council will send a New Year tree and gifts to the Russian military in Syria. Speaker Valentina Matvienko prepared a personal gift - a real Russian samovar and a collection of Soviet comedies.

“We chose the fluffiest Christmas tree and we want it to remind our children of home, the Motherland and the fact that they are loved, welcome and useful. I personally prepared a samovar with bagels, as well as a collection of the best Soviet comedies. Without them and the “Irony of Fate,” there is no real holiday – the New Year,” the speaker said.

She called on everyone to join this action, which will be coordinated by the head of the House Committee on Defense and Security, Viktor Ozerov.

“What is happening now on Syrian soil and the Middle Eastern world shows how strong and merciless international terrorism is. He stops at nothing,” the speaker of the Federation Council emphasized.

The day before, in an interview with RT TV channel, she stated that the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria did not lead to an increase in military spending and a decrease in funding for social budget items. In addition, Matvienko noted that “there is no talk of Russia’s participation in a ground military operation in Syria.”
