The ex-commander of the former Ukrainian Belbek airfield in Crimea, Yuliy Mamchur, stated this in a commentary to the Air Force.

According to him, in addition, the Ukrainian command constantly warned the military about the unacceptability of the use of force.
“We had about 50 pistols and 100 machine guns. There were five Soviet body armor and old iron helmets. We had a security company of thirty people. From the side of the Russian soldiers we saw “Tigers”, “Mukhi”, sniper rifles and “Utes” machine guns. This is a specialized weapon for a special forces battalion. We didn't have anything like this. The management told us that there are conversations with the Russian Federation about resolving the situation, don’t provoke it,” notes Mamchur.
