McCain in Kyiv called for new sanctions against Russia to stop Putin
Kyiv, September 05 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) - Western countries must introduce new sanctions against Russia - now sectoral - to stop Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. In addition, the Ukrainian authorities should receive military assistance.
US Senator John McCain stated this at a briefing in Kyiv.

“It is now clear that what Vladimir Putin is doing in Ukraine is an invasion of a sovereign country. And if Europe, America and the civilized world do not react adequately, we will give it the green light. The next steps that urgently need to be taken are serious sanctions against individuals or institutions, but sectoral ones. “In addition, it is important to agree on authorization to provide defensive weapons, intellectual and other assistance to Ukraine to stop Putin’s invasion,” Senator McCain emphasized.
“It became obvious that the real provocation for Putin was the demonstration of weakness by the West. We must understand that Putin's appetite only grows while he eats, and he will continue to grab more until he is faced with losses that he is not prepared to bear,” he added.
Senator McCain is confident that Putin will not stop if the world allows him to create a corridor overland to Crimea, and will continue his pressure on Moldova and the Baltic countries.
McCain is convinced that the United States should have acted in accordance with the Budapest Memorandum long ago. “Now it will be difficult to convince other countries to give up nuclear weapons in exchange for guarantees, because it is clear that the Budapest Memorandum, which guarantees the integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea, has been completely violated,” the senator explained.
“Putin wants to restore the former Russian Empire and cannot allow free democratic prospects in Ukraine, because sooner or later the people of Russia will want the same way of life,” McCain said.
