Russian Senator Andrei Klishas does not believe that the conflict with Lithuania over transit to Kaliningrad is over.
He stated this today at a press conference in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“A number of European countries believe that sanctions measures exempt them from fulfilling all obligations, including international legal ones. The situation with Kaliningrad is a very striking example. Lithuania has certain obligations to the Russian Federation. It refers to sanctions measures and refuses to comply with international agreements. Let me remind you that sanctions measures are an extra-legal reality. But Lithuania first votes for them in the EU, and then refers to this decision, refusing to fulfill its obligations,” Klishas said.
He believes that Russia should take a tough position towards Lithuania.
“You need to take a very tough position in such moments. This is a violation of the sovereignty of the Russian Federation. The tougher our position, the faster they react. It is absolutely unacceptable to wait weeks for a response from European Commission officials. We must be able to protect the rights of our citizens to our sovereignty by any means. Right down to the military. Sanctions are an absolutely illegal form of influencing the position of citizens. You need to act extremely harshly and not necessarily in a mirror way. Any measures. Because this is sovereignty,” Klishas emphasized.
