The Ukrainian government, at the request of the IMF, continues to raise gas prices, justifying itself with the mythical “market value”.
The leader of the “Radical Party” Oleg Lyashko stated this during today’s meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Lyashko emphasized that the rise in gas prices is a key point that worries Ukrainians and demanded that the government explain the need to increase the price to 11 thousand hryvnia per 1000 cubic meters.
“When they raised it to seven, eight, nine thousand hryvnia per 1000 cubic meters, they also talked about what the market price should be. How much more do you need to raise the price to finally stop? The cost of Ukrainian gas is one and a half to two thousand hryvnia per thousand cubic meters. Taking into account profitability and transportation costs, a maximum of three and a half - four. Why eleven? Where does the number come from? Where can people get money? When will the government raise wages and pensions? The IMF memorandum says: sale of land, increase in gas prices, and a ban on increasing wages and pensions,” Lyashko said.
“Four million people live on the minimum wage, millions of pensioners live on a minimum pension of 1500 hryvnia. We demand that the government not delay increasing payments until the fall, but do it now. And not to raise gas prices, but to pursue a policy of increasing Ukrainian gas production so as not to buy it from outside. More own gas, energy modernization instead of subsidies!” the “radical” called.
He also addressed the head of Naftogaz, Kobolev.
“You received 10 million euros in the Stockholm arbitration award, from which Ukraine has not yet received a penny. Moreover, the arbitration decision has been stayed. Mr. Kobolev, I demand that you and your officials return the 20 million euros that you have already received for a decision that has not yet been implemented. You had no right to receive this money. Return this money to Ukrainians and use it to lower gas prices and the cost of utility bills,” Lyashko demanded.
