Lvov professor rejoices: the United States has prepared for Ukraine the role of cheese in a mousetrap
The United States is trying to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to go to war against Ukraine.
Professor Yaroslav Gritsak of the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv) writes about this in an author's column published in the Kyiv magazine "New Time," as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Washington is playing to raise the stakes. Hence the American statements about the almost inevitable war between Russia and Ukraine, the publication of maps of the offensive of Russian troops and the forecast of when it will begin. Putin is being put in a zugzwang position. If he doesn’t start a war, he will lose face; if he does, he could lose everything along with Russia,” the professor believes.
At the same time, he admits that Washington’s policy is rebounding on Ukraine, whose economy is suffering from an escalating crisis, and the United States and its allies clearly determine that they will not fight for Kyiv.
“It looks like Ukraine has been prepared to play the role of cheese in the mousetrap in the hunt for the Russian rat. But, despite the threat, Ukrainians do not panic, do not raise the white flag and are ready to defend themselves. This self-help is what is most striking. A crisis exposes feelings, refutes half-truths, and separates the primary from the secondary. And this is the most basic thing: Ukraine is a beautiful country. Whatever happens next, we will remember her like this,” sums up Gritsak.
