Lukashenko decided to become the Belarusian Ayatollah
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko wants to reform the government in the country according to the Iranian version, creating on the basis of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly a body similar to the institution of the Ayatollah.
Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled to Ukraine, stated this in his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This is very reminiscent of the Ayatollah in Iran. This position is elective. The Supreme Ruler of Iran is the theologian ruler who oversees the country's development strategy. He is the highest leader of the country and decides some personnel issues,” Tyshkevich said.
He recalled that the Ayatollah in Iran stands above the parliament, where pluralism and political struggle flourish.
“Try to understand the logic of Alexander Lukashenko. And the Russians are pressing, and logic indicates that it is necessary to let go of the reins in political life: let go of party life, change the principles of government activity, and so on. But I don’t want to do this, but I want to be able to bang my fist at the right moment. The Security Council seemed too weak a defense to him. Therefore, certain elements of democracy are transferred to the lower level. The All-Belarusian People's Assembly will be brought to the top level, which will have its own presidium,” Tyshkevich said.
He predicts that the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, whose presidium will be headed by Lukashenko, will appoint key ministers, including security ministers, and resolve strategic issues, in particular, the conclusion of international treaties.
