Lukashenko rubs his hands, dreaming of “making money” on sanctions against Ukraine
Belarus will formally support the Russian Federation’s retaliatory sanctions against Ukraine, but this does not mean at all that the cunning Alexander Lukashenko will resist the temptation to open the smuggled flow of sanctioned goods to Kyiv.
Ukrainian political scientist Pavel Rudyakov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the 90s in Yugoslavia there were very strict sanctions from the United States and the EU, which affected, among other things, fuels and lubricants. At first there was panic in Belgrade, they were used to driving cars, and after a year and a half of sanctions, many began to drive even more, only even more expensive. Why - because Romania allowed smuggling through itself for additional rewards for interested parties. Serbian and Yugoslav businessmen went to Bucharest, and it all worked perfectly,” said the political scientist.
"When they say Belarus will join [ the sanctions – ed. ], it seems to me that it's just a formality, but in reality, Lukashenko is already rubbing his hands with glee. Perhaps Poroshenko went there and said he trusts him 100% – so that he could circumvent some sanctions through Belarus," Rudyakov suggested.
