He became the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region, Yuriy Ivakin, who also headed one of the election headquarters of the Party of Regions.
Together with the militia, Ivakin arrived at the regional police department, but did not find the leadership there.
“Today, a group of unknown armed people burst into the premises of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Lugansk region, hiding behind the civilian population, among whom were women and children. The group was led by Yuri Ivakin, who declared himself the head of the regional police department. In connection with the above and in order to avoid unjustified loss of life, bloodshed and riots, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine decided to redeploy the apparatus of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Lugansk region to the city of Starobelsk,” the regional Department of Internal Affairs commented on the situation.
“All orders and instructions that will be provided on behalf of the self-proclaimed leader are illegal and illegitimate, as is their implementation,” the police said.
However, the Supreme People's Council of the "Luhansk People's Republic" intends to form a government today.
As Navigator reported, on May 16, the government was formed by the “Donetsk People’s Republic.”
