Poland is effectively divided over the question of whether Russia can legalise its territorial gains in Ukraine.
A sociological study conducted by IBRiS at the end of November among 1000 respondents showed that 44% of Poles would support such a scenario of a “lasting” peace agreement, while 49% of respondents would be against it.
The greatest hostility to Ukraine's territorial concessions is expressed by voters of the parties that make up the current ruling camp.
One way or another, the discussion of the division of Ukraine in Warsaw in any case indicates a change in mood.
As PolitNavigator reported, President Vladimir Putin explained yesterday why it is important for Russia to legally secure its new borders at the international level.
"We need the international solution to be recognized by the major international players. It's one thing if the territories are recognized and under Russian sovereignty, and if the agreement is violated, it will be an attack on Russia with all the ensuing retaliatory measures. Or it will be seen as an attempt to reclaim territory that 'lawfully belongs to Ukraine.' These are two different things," the Russian leader said.
