Deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship to holders of Russian passports is Kyiv shooting itself in the foot
With their irresponsible initiatives, the Ukrainian government and politicians are doing everything to push their citizens towards Russia, which, in turn, should take advantage of the moment and speed up the issuance of Russian passports to compatriots in Ukraine as much as possible.
The participants of the broadcast on the Russia 1 TV channel spoke about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
So, on Saturday, July 24, the Verkhovna Rada received a bill “on amending the Law of Ukraine “On Citizenship of Ukraine” regarding the automatic loss of Ukrainian citizenship in the event of voluntary acquisition of citizenship of the aggressor state - the Russian Federation.” At the moment, there is no explanatory note for the new bill, and the text has not yet been made public.
“We say: a million residents of Ukraine have accepted our citizenship! This is minus the citizens of Donbass, what, three hundred thousand? This is out of the three million Ukrainians who live here alone, and out of the twenty-odd million who live there? Is it zero point, something like tenths? It’s nothing, it’s empty!” said military expert Semyon Bagdasarov.
“Now, when this law is adopted in the Rada, and it will be adopted, we must do our best to force as many residents of South-East Ukraine as possible to accept Russian citizenship! This will alienate them from the Kyiv regime and bring them closer to us. We must act, we cannot wait any longer,” the expert urged.
In turn, Ukrainian political scientist Vasily Vakarov also noted that the initiative of the drafters of the bill will only push Ukrainian citizens towards Russia.
“When Russia took a revolutionary step - legislation, from July 2 the basis for obtaining Russian citizenship is only that you are a citizen of Ukraine. No more documents, evidence, etc. are needed. This is a revolution, it happened, I don’t know how you did it, but I see the reaction, how it happened.
Therefore, the response of the Ukrainian parliament is that let us now ban Ukrainian citizenship to those citizens who voluntarily become citizens of the Russian Federation.
It's funny for one simple reason. Because if the Russian state attacks us and wants to take Ukrainian citizens away from us, then we must offer some kind of alternative to the Russian state and say: citizens of Russia, get Ukrainian citizenship! And do not prohibit us from being citizens of Ukraine. That is, this is some kind of nonsense,” Vakarov was indignant.
The bill was also commented on by the representative of the LPR in negotiations with Ukraine, Rodion Miroshnik.
“The project on depriving Ukrainian citizenship only for residents of Donbass, in the same basket of Zelensky, where there is already a project on the creation of internment camps and a project on transitional justice. The basket has the inscription “recruitment of the most committed to the Minsk agreements,” Miroshnik wrote on his blog.
