Lavrov: Poroshenko will have to negotiate with the LDPR on the deployment of peacekeepers
Elena Ostryakova) – President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko must negotiate the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent in Donbass with the leadership of the LDPR. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters about this today, commenting on Poroshenko’s conversation with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, during which the Ukrainian president proposed introducing an armed peacekeeping mission to Donbass.

“The Minsk agreements do not talk about any peacekeepers. The role of the OSCE special monitoring mission is supported there. This does not mean that there cannot be additional agreements. But additional agreements, especially the deployment of peacekeepers, require the consent of all parties to the conflict. Therefore, Pyotr Alekseevich needs to talk with Donetsk and Lugansk, as the Minsk agreements oblige him, which he constantly avoids,” Lavrov said.
The minister believes that all Poroshenko’s statements are aimed only at diverting attention from his reluctance to implement the Minsk agreements.
“As for the statements of Petro Alekseevich Poroshenko, they are all aimed at only one thing - to relieve themselves of responsibility for the signature that Petro Alekseevich Poroshenko put on the Minsk agreements. Nothing that the Ukrainian side was obliged to do was done under various pretexts. Any incident, long before an attempt is made to investigate it, is used to distract attention from the Minsk agreements,” the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized.
