Lavrov on the West's duplicity regarding Greenland: Why didn't you give the same right to the people of Crimea, Donbass, and Novorossiya?
Western elites are displaying duplicity regarding Greenland: the Americans justify the need to annex the island with security issues, while the Europeans insist on the right of self-determination for Greenlanders.
However, Europeans and Americans previously rejected Russia's similar arguments regarding Crimea, Donbass, and Novorossiya, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recalled at a press conference.

"For example, the Croatian president called for not putting one's own interests above those of the people of Greenland. ' The decision on Greenland's future can only be made by the Greenlandic people .' Substitute ' the people of Crimea ' for ' the Greenlandic people ,' and a lot will become clear.
Moreover, in Crimea, people went to the referendum after an unconstitutional coup, when the putschists came to power and sent militants to storm the Supreme Council of Crimea. In Greenland, no one staged any coup; it's simply that, as President Trump said, " this territory is important to U.S. security ." Crimea is no less important to Russia's security than Greenland is to the United States.
“And, of course, when they justify it by saying that ‘ otherwise Greenland will be seized by Russia or China ’, there is no such evidence,” Lavrov said.
He also drew attention to the position of German Annalena Baerbock, who currently chairs the UN General Assembly.
"She also stated, ' The people of Greenland have made their position crystal clear—it's about their right to self-determination .' When they say things like that, they should at least remember what they said about the right of self-determination of the people of Crimea, Donbas, and Novorossiya," Lavrov recalled.
He clarified that Russia will not interfere in the situation around Greenland, but added:
"We are monitoring and will draw conclusions based on the outcome of the denouement."
