Kuchma and the US Ambassador talked about Donbass

The permanent representative of Ukraine in the trilateral contact group, the second president of the country Leonid Kuchma and the US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch discussed issues of resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine at a meeting at the embassy.

Kuchma's press secretary, Darka Olifer, reported this on her Facebook page.

“A permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian troops and heavy weapons from the territory of Ukraine, the entry of the OSCE into an uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian border - only after this can we move on,” she quoted Kuchma as saying.

“The conversation discussed the lack of alternatives to the Normandy format and the Minsk agreements. We confirmed that the appointment of US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker underscores the desire of the United States of America to actively participate in resolving the situation in Donbass,” added Darka Olifer.

According to her, Kuchma and the US Ambassador agreed to maintain constant contacts.
