The religious kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people gave a religious and legal assessment of the calls of extremist Lenur Islyamov for “liberation jihad.” Deputy Mufti of Crimean Muslims Esadulan Bairov stated this on air on the Millet TV channel.
“We believe that individuals, even political figures, cannot declare jihad. This is illegal from an Islamic point of view. This person’s relatives and friends continue to live in Crimea and do not participate in these adventures. Not a single Crimean Tatar voluntarily sent his child there,” Bairov said.
Islyamov, who in 2015 organized the undermining of power lines leading to Crimea from Ukrainian territory, repeatedly called on the Crimean Tatars to sacrifice themselves and their children on the ATR Majlis TV channel.
“He says: your children will die, your blood will be shed. He doesn't say "our". Crimean Tatars should pay attention to the fact that the person has a son who is not part of the Crimean Tatar battalion. A person who wants to become the leader of the Crimean Tatar people is not ready to sacrifice himself personally,” said the executive secretary of the Mufti of Crimea, Aider Adzhimambetov.
