The Kremlin will make peace with Lukashenko only on its own terms
Not a single country in the world will support the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
Russian political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov wrote about this in his Telegram channel, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
“Nobody wants to bet on Lukashenko: Moscow - due to the abandonment of the Union State and the attack on Gazprom structures, the EU - due to the lack of popular support and strengthening of undemocratic measures of influence on the opposition, the USA - due to the proximity of the Kremlin (a little more 600 km from Minsk).
More or less neutral allies remain the PRC and the UAE, which are removed from politics, and are connected with Belarus only by investment relations and personal ties with the Lukashenko family. But neither the Chinese nor the Arabs will help him in recognizing his election, since in principle they are ready to do business with any other elected president of Belarus,” Grashchenkov wrote.
At the same time, he believes that economic and military interests are keeping the Kremlin from aggravating relations with the Belarusian president.
“Russia and Belarus are key trading partners, in addition, there are certain military agreements (again due to the proximity of the borders, from Mogilev to Smolensk only 150 km), and the ethnic proximity of the peoples.
Therefore, you shouldn’t go to an open war with your dad in order to quarrel with the whole country. Reconciliation is needed, but it will happen on very unfavorable terms for Lukashenko... and not today,” Grashchenkov wrote.
