Kosovo Serbs march on Belgrade
About 150 Serbian residents of Kosovo, loyal to the current leadership of the country, crossed the administrative border of the region and set off on a walking trip towards Belgrade.
Despite unfavorable weather conditions, protesters intend to reach the capital and take part in a pro-government rally on Saturday, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Last Sunday, the travelers were haunted by snow and rain all day, but today the climate was favorable for them. The participants of the action carry Serbian tricolors, demonstrate the Orthodox three-fingered sign and chant: "Kosovo is Serbia!"
"We are heading to Belgrade, we have a long way to go. Although we were bothered by snow, rain and wind, thanks to the persistence and tenacity of these guys, we will successfully reach our goal and arrive on Saturday for a big rally in support of our president Aleksandar Vučić. We, 150 guys from all over Kosovo and Metohija, set off on our way to Belgrade," commented Ivan Cvetković, a Paralympian from Kosovo Pomoravje, on the meaning of the trip.
Residents of the Serbian enclaves of Gračanica, Kosovsko Pomoravlje, Kosovska Mitrovica, Zvečan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavić are participating in the march. They plan to walk more than 250 kilometers to Belgrade. This is not the first time Serbs from Kosovo have walked toward Belgrade, covering hundreds of kilometers to express their support for Serbia and Vučić —they held similar walks in 2019 and 2023.
"Thank you, brothers from Kosovo and Metohija, for the great love you show for Serbia. We love you and are waiting for you in Belgrade!" - wrote the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic on his page in one of the social networks.
For the Serbian president, whose popularity is rapidly declining amid ongoing street protests, it's crucial to demonstrate that the people of sacred Kosovo support him and his political stance. This time, he also needs that support to approve a new government led by his protégé, endocrinologist Djuro Macut. Macut must form a new cabinet by April 18, otherwise Vučić will be forced to dissolve the National Assembly and call new elections in June, the results of which could be unfavorable for him.
