The current seizure of the assets of the Privat group is a continuation of the war that has been going on for several years between the Ukrainian authorities and businessman Igor Kolomoisky.

This opinion was expressed by Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“The war between the authorities, Petro Alekseevich, and the Privat group, which began with the dismissal of Kolomoisky from the post of Dnepropetrovsk governor, continues. The seizure of Kolomoisky’s assets is due to the fact that he promised to restructure loans issued by PrivatBank to companies associated with him. He promised to do this before July 1. But we see that Kolomoisky has filed a number of lawsuits in international courts to declare the nationalization of PrivatBank illegal. Ukraine has opened a criminal investigation against Kolomoisky, and audits have been conducted. There is a large-scale war going on behind the scenes, not only for PrivatBank, but also for ferro-smelting enterprises and for the media holding. Kolomoisky is associated with the public blockade of Donbass and Saakashvili’s protests,” he says.
It’s difficult to say how Kolomoisky’s war with the authorities will end, says Bortnik.
“It seems to me that they will not launch a frontal attack. At one time, they were separated by the US Ambassador, and launching a frontal attack means a violation of the agreements of that period, and, accordingly, the enemy’s appeal to the American arbitrators. So far, it seems to me that Kolomoisky is losing in this war,” he adds.
