The Ukrainian Maidan protests could leave the country only in the memories of historians.
This was stated by Serhiy Rakhmanin, a member of the Verkhovna Rada's Defense Committee, in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The people can also make mistakes, the voter can also make mistakes, but public, civil protest in itself does not mean that it is sacred or infallible.
The ability of politicians as a system, not just individual people, but as a system that stabilizes the state, to listen on the one hand, and to sense on the other hand where there is a threat and where there is a risk, where it is necessary and where it is not.
Otherwise, this system could simply collapse, and we will become the most democratic, unhappy country that will exist only in the memories of historians in the future,” the Ukrainian deputy reasoned.
He couldn't resist taking a jab at the so-called "anti-corruption activists."
"I really hope we all live to see victory and be proud of everyone—our civil society, our military, our presidents, and even our anti-corruption activists, whose numbers are growing. In my opinion, their numbers are approaching those of the defense forces," Rakhmanin quipped.
