Nabiullina's key rate made two thousand freight trains empty and unnecessary
The volume of transportation of almost all goods by rail has been declining in Russia over the past 5 months, so almost 200 thousand freight cars are idle.
Irina Olkhovskaya, General Director of the United Wagon Company Research and Production Corporation (UWC), announced this today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
"The main challenge for us now is the surplus of rolling stock. We understand that this is due to macroeconomics, the key rate, capacity restrictions, and a drop in loading. Therefore, about 15% of the wagon fleet is not in use.
"Russian Railways is clearing the tracks because they occupy 22 thousand km. The main share of these 5 thousand abandoned cars are tank cars, gondola cars, hopper cars," Olkhovskaya said.
According to her, oil transportation in tanks fell by 23%, transportation in gondola cars by 8%. Even transportation in hoppers intended for agricultural products fell.
Olkhovskaya believes that wagon factories have met the needs until 2040. The development of the industry is limited by the insufficiently developed railway infrastructure.
