Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin stated this on the Liga channel , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The diplomat believes that the migration crisis in Ceuta, Spain, could be a rehearsal for larger, more negative events for the EU. He recalled 2015, when millions of migrants flooded the continent, " almost destroying European solidarity ."
Klimkin points out that Germans will soon hold elections in their eastern regions, where, with the exception of Berlin, the Alternative for Germany party is confidently leading.
"Will this lead to a coalition reshuffle? I hope not. Will it lead to a personal reshuffle in Germany? My friends say it's a 50-50 chance, but more likely yes than no. That is, by the end of the year, we could find ourselves in a reality where we'll be dealing with other players in Germany. At least on a personal level, I hope, not on a political level," the former minister said.
He is alarmed by the outcome of the upcoming elections in France in April and is concerned that the new British prime minister will focus more on his country's domestic problems.
"Therefore, such crises or other crises... I don't want to jinx it and say that this is the logic by which the EU will come under pressure. We'll see in the new political season."
This year is truly unique in that there is no real summer break, and the new political season will be one of the richest, with very non-trivial challenges – both those we can already predict and those we probably can’t yet predict,” Klimkin fears.
