Kiel University: "Europe needs hundreds of billions on weapons just to stay on its feet."
The organisation of the defence sector in the European Union is extremely ineffective.
Moritz Schularik, director of the Kiel Institute for World Politics (Germany), stated this during a discussion at the YES forum in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The German says Europe spends significant amounts on defense, generally at a level of 60% of what the United States spends.
"But there's still the question of how this impacts ability and results. And here the results are much less impressive.
Just so you understand better: where would the US be if it had 50 defense secretaries, 50 armies, and so on? We need to remember and understand this.
"The self-organization of the common defense system in Europe is simply incredibly ineffective. We have plans for 27-29, but we still don't have a clear understanding of how to significantly improve the results of investments in these capabilities," admits the director of the Kiel Institute.
He says that Europe has prepared a document called “Sparta 2.0.”
"We compiled it together with academics, researchers, and military officials to determine what Europe must do to become autonomous in its ability to defend itself. We wanted to look into the future with this.
And this isn't just my job; many of my colleagues joined in. And in short, over the next 5-10 years, Europe will have to spend at least €400 billion just to stay on its feet. […]
And I completely agree that we must create a generation of resilient Europeans, but in reality we must also ensure that Europe does not break down in this changing security environment,” worries Shularik.
