Ukraine is being persistently pushed to implement the Minsk agreements, which will ultimately lead to catastrophic consequences for the country.

A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Doctor of Sociological Sciences Alexander Shulga from the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine writes about this in an article published by a Kyiv online publication.

“There are already great risks that, as a result of multilateral negotiations, the detente of unprecedented tension will become the actual implementation of the Minsk agreements, including their political part.

No matter what cautiously optimistic results the big advisers summed up after Normandy, we understand that they are paving the way for us to fulfill Minsk. What was said between the lines at yesterday’s press conference by President Zelensky to foreign journalists is confirmation of this: if NATO does not want to fight for us with Russia, then we will make our own choice,” writes Shulga.

He notes that if the authorities implement the "Minsk scenario," a serious parliamentary and general political crisis in the country can be predicted. The scientist also recalls that a previous attempt to agree to a "Minsk peace" resulted in a grenade explosion near the Rada on August 31, 2015, and the deaths of four National Guard soldiers.

“Such a development of the situation is all the more likely because in the eighth year of the war in Donbass, society has no answer as to which solution is most acceptable: according to the Monitoring data of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, at the end of 2021, 40% of citizens cannot answer this question, according to 15% are in favor of continuing hostilities and an economic blockade, 13% are ready to abandon the occupied territories, and 16% believe that it is necessary to provide these territories with a special status,” the sociologist points out.

In his opinion, such uncertainty gives the president both the opportunity to make decisions necessary for the implementation of the Minsk agreements and also conceals the already mentioned risks.

“The answer to this stalemate—a war with Russia or Minsk with civil confrontation within the country—could be early presidential elections,” summarizes Shulga.

As PolitNavigator reported, Moscow demanded that the US enforce peace.
