Kyiv expert: One good nuclear strike will make the West forget about Ukraine
The real threat of nuclear escalation will lead to a compromise between Russia and the West at the expense of Ukraine.
Kyiv financial analyst and economist Alexey Kushch announced this on the air of “Novosti Live,” as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The presenter noted that statements are being made in Ukraine (in particular by former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba) that even a nuclear strike on Ukraine would ultimately be a victory for it.
The expert believes that this is “a simply terrible statement” in fact, since it demonstrates a lack of understanding of the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons, firstly, for generations.
He is equally concerned that in this case the West will stop taking into account Ukraine’s interests and will enter into agreements with Russia.
"It's simply terrifying to hear this from Kuleba, because it effectively demonstrates ignorance of the history of global diplomacy. And as a diplomat, he should understand that the use of nuclear weapons could effectively renew or nullify our geopolitical agency," the Ukrainian expert fears.
According to him, nuclear escalation in any format would immediately lead to a very acute crisis, which would be resolved through tough compromises without Ukraine's participation, since global security would be at stake.
"Any nuclear escalation effectively relegates us to the background of these negotiations. And no one will ask us about peace terms anymore. These terms will be decided without us," warns Kushch.
