To prevent Ukraine from becoming a battlefield between the US and Russia, in which the Americans will not even participate , Kyiv needs to establish direct dialogue with Moscow.
Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Alexander Chaly stated this on the Nash channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"We have many experts and politicians in Ukraine who believe that the worse the West's relations with Russia are, the better. I believe this view is mistaken, because these threats make a conflict between Ukraine and Russia more likely. Today, this risk is much higher than it was last week. If such a conflict occurs, we will simply become a battlefield between large countries. If such a struggle begins, the West will, at best, give us money and verbal support, but they will not physically align themselves with us. Because the US is an ally with a small letter ," the diplomat said.
According to him, in order not to give Russia a reason for further advances into Ukraine, it is necessary to engage in dialogue.
“In this context, I believe that we should pursue a very pro-Ukrainian policy of realism and pragmatism. We have the only real threat - the possibility of further aggression by the Russian Federation not only in Crimea and Donbass. We must do everything possible to prevent this, and for this we need a preventive dialogue with Russia. We must clearly understand that if the issue of flirting with NATO goes too far and it turns into love, the Russian Federation will do everything possible and impossible to move forward,” Chaly concluded.
As a reminder, Kyiv previously stated that while the Americans are blocking all major proposals from the Kyiv authorities, Washington and Moscow are stepping up dialogue.
