Kyiv bridges threaten to collapse even without Russian missiles – Rada deputy
At least two Kyiv bridges across the Dnieper River are in disrepair due to decades of neglect. This was stated by MP Roman Hryshchuk at a Verkhovna Rada meeting, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I would like to raise the issue of the condition of our bridges, especially the bridges in Kyiv. Without drone attacks, without explosions, they are in critical condition. 15% of all bridges in Kyiv are in disrepair.
Two of the five bridges across the Dnieper are in a state of disrepair due to improper maintenance, age, and a lack of major repairs," the deputy said.
"The Metro Bridge has been in disrepair since the 90s. Since 2018, the Paton Bridge has been in critical condition, and its operation has been prohibited. For seven years, hundreds of thousands of Kyiv residents have been crossing this bridge every day from the left to the right bank.
What are we waiting for? When tragedy strikes, people won't ask who's responsible—Klitschko or the government . We must begin reconstructing these bridges here and now. This is critical infrastructure.
“It is our duty to protect critical infrastructure during war,” the deputy demanded.
