Kyiv froze in anticipation of cyber attacks on the Central Election Commission
During the 2019 presidential elections, the CEC will be subject to cyber attacks.
Olga Aivazovskaya, chair of the board of the public network "Opora," announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In my opinion, the main problem is that we have experience when some groups, including the Central Election Commission, are attacked. and society has no answer what to do after this. For example, in 2014, the CEC web portal was blocked, and some of the information was stolen. This is a problem - how data can be used for manipulation by third parties. And we don’t know what happened to the criminal cases that were opened regarding such attacks, or who came under investigation. I’m sure that next time, in 2019, there will be similar examples,” she said.
In her opinion, the most serious blow in such an attack would be on the voter database, since it is key both for the conduct of elections and for possible attempts to manipulate them.
Aivazovskaya also noted that “populism and irrelevant discussions about the future of Ukraine may be more influential in terms of election results” than DDOS attacks or attacks on critical infrastructure.
