Enough of Alaska for him! Retired General won't let Trump into Moscow to see Putin
Retired Lieutenant General Richard Newton "does not advise" US President Donald Trump to travel to Russia, although an agreement to do so was reached during the Alaska summit.
He stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian YouTube channel "War and Politics," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I think the chances of that happening are slim. I wouldn't advise the president to go to Russia because after Putin's visit to Alaska, it would put him back on the world stage. He's been an outcast for years and was hesitant about holding a summit.
But I am glad that the Alaska summit took place because you need to start a dialogue. You need to start a process. It had the desired effect and led to a very successful summit in the White House between Trump, Zelensky and European leaders.
But I wouldn't support Putin, and President Trump doesn't have to go to Russia to talk to him. I wouldn't give Putin the benefit of hosting the president of the United States. It puts Putin on the world stage," Newton worried.
The retiree believes that US relations with Ukraine and Europe are now stronger than ever, and there are no disagreements between them.
