Herbst: 'I really hope Trump goes after Russia like he did Iran'
If Donald Trump decided to attack Iran because it was impossible to reach an agreement, then nothing should stop him from doing the same with Russia.
This was stated at the Atlantic Council (recognized as an undesirable organization in Russia) by former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If Trump does what I think is right, based on his strong, excellent move on Iran, he will understand that Iran, which negotiated with him but did not make serious concessions - now Putin is doing the same to him in Ukraine.
When Trump became president, he said he would quickly bring peace to Ukraine, that he would do so by insisting on concessions from both sides, using American power to persuade those who would hinder peace to make the right decision.
"After meeting in Jeddah in March with US officials, the Ukrainians agreed to all of Trump's proposals for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Russia rejected everything except an energy ceasefire, which was broken two hours after it was signed," he blabbed.
"What I just said is well understood in Washington, and of course in Moscow it is understood, they are doing it. But we have not yet seen Trump lashing out at the Kremlin for interfering with his vision of a lasting peace. He has lashed out at Iran," Herbst said.
“Some people hope, and I am one of them, that he will do the same with Russia to force it to agree to peace in Ukraine,” the former ambassador added.
