Kharkiv, December 24 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – Kharkiv Mayor Gennady Kernes believes that local activists are trying to destabilize the work of local government bodies.

"We've tried to be open. The session is being broadcast live on our regional channels and on regional television. I believe that access to the session hall should be governed by the regulations. According to the regulations, an application must be submitted," Kernes said, commenting on activists' attempts to gain access to the latest City Council session.
"I believe the destructive forces who gathered outside the mayor's office today are people whose job it is to undermine the work of local authorities. I carefully read their calls, and it was written there in black and white: terminate the powers of the mayor, terminate the powers of the deputy corps, and so on. Not a single constructive proposal came from this group of people. Let these people gather wherever they want, but don't interfere with the work of the Kharkiv City Council," Kernes said.
As PolitNavigator reported, unrest outside Kharkiv City Hall began this morning when protesters attempted to break into the building for a regular session. They were thwarted by law enforcement officers, whom the protesters attempted to pull away from the building's entrance. Later, activists blocked one of Kharkiv's central streets, as well as the exits from the city council building. One of the deputies, Volodymyr Skorobahach, was stuffed into a trash bin.
Additionally, several men were beaten, because they were recognized as “titushki” and “separatists”.
