Kaja Kallas is persuading Armenia to impose sanctions against Russia and enticing visa-free travel.
Armenia must join the European Union's anti-Russian sanctions.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated this at a meeting of the EU-Armenia Partnership Council in Brussels, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The sanctions we've imposed on Russia are certainly challenging, but we also ask our partner countries to do the same , because we all want this war to end. I believe the impact of this war on all our economies is profound. That's why we imposed sanctions, to end this war. That's why we're also asking our partners to match them. And that's why we're providing opportunities to diversify trade portfolios so they're not dependent on the Russian economy ," Kallas said.
She reported that the EU has allocated 15 million euros to “ maintain peace and strengthen Armenia’s resilience ” and is ready to grant Armenians visa-free entry to its territory.
In his response, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that “ the new milestones we achieve in cooperation with the EU sometimes exceed our ability to formalize them ,” and recalled that the Armenian parliament in March adopted a law launching Armenia’s accession process to the EU.
Earlier, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, stated that " there is no big difference between the EU and NATO ."
"And the level of Russophobia is about the same, and the countries are also about the same. So, of course, we will take this factor into account in the future," the Russian diplomat said.
