On the website of the President of Uzbekistan, there is still a government message that the president’s condition has sharply worsened over the past XNUMX hours and, according to doctors, is assessed as critical.
On August 28, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan announced that the country's President Karimov was undergoing hospital treatment. “He needs a full medical examination, which will take some time,” the official statement said. Karimov's daughter Lola said that he suffered a stroke.
On August 29, the Fergana agency, citing sources, reported that Karimov had died. However, the presidential office denied this information.
On August 31, the daughter of the head of state congratulated her compatriots on the Independence Day of Uzbekistan and thanked her father for the well wishes. “I am confident that this enormous force of good, emanating from the very depths of your hearts, helps in his healing!” – she wrote.
On September 1, Fergana reported that preparations were underway for his funeral in Karimov’s homeland of Samarkand. According to the agency, on September 2 and 3, representatives of the top leadership of several CIS countries and non-CIS countries will arrive in Uzbekistan to participate in mourning events. Journalists claim that the plane with the president’s body took off from Tashkent to Samarkand at about 10 pm.
On the morning of September 2, the Uzbek government reported that Karimov's condition had deteriorated sharply, without denying rumors of his death.
Islam Karimov is considered one of the most authoritarian and brutal post-Soviet rulers. Under him, Uzbekistan became one of the poorest countries in the world, and most of the working-age population was forced to look for work abroad.
