Due to the severance of production and trade ties with Russia, NTK Elektronpribor, the only Ukrainian enterprise engaged in the production of on-board systems for civil and military aviation, lost about 70% of the market and income and found itself on the verge of bankruptcy.
The acting general director and chief designer of the company, Laszlo Yatsko, announced this on air on Channel 4, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Yatsko, Ukraine supplied its systems in cooperation with Russian manufacturers to a number of countries around the world, but after the breakdown of relations, these ties ceased.
“We lost approximately 70% of turnover and 70% of the market. An-140 aircraft were produced in Samara, An-148 aircraft were produced in Voronezh, Volga-Dnepr is the largest operator of An-124 aircraft. There were constant modernizations, maintenance of airworthiness, some repairs, some work was constantly progressing.
In addition, we participated with the Mikoyan company and the Sukhov company in work on the modernization of military equipment. But the Russian Federation has long since Ukraine gained independence, and has followed a strategic path to use products developed and produced in the Russian Federation for its armed forces.
But during the Soviet Union, a lot of fighters, bombers, and helicopters were delivered to so-called friendly countries. This is Southeast Asia, this is Africa, South America, Central America. Our company participated very closely with Russian military corporations in the modernization of such military equipment.
For 2013, protocols of intent were signed for the supply of approximately 350-400 aircraft kits in the interests of such enterprises as Sokol, RSK MiG and others. Moreover, all these kits were mainly intended for third countries. Venezuela, Peru, Indonesia, Malaysia, Algeria. These are the countries. Naturally, after these events we immediately lost this market,” said Yatsko.
