“We will end the historical war with the West with victory” - Kornilov
The monument to Marshal Konev, dismantled in Prague, or its exact copy, must be installed in Moscow opposite the Czech embassy.
Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"How do they justify the removal of the Konev monument? We recognize his role in liberating Europe from Nazism, but we're taking it down because he tainted himself by leading the suppression of the Budapest Uprising. At the same time, we understand why they're taking it down before the 75th anniversary of Prague's liberation, and therefore Victory Day.
If anyone thinks that this is an excuse, remember how in the center of Prague a monument to Soviet liberators had already been demolished long before this, there stood a tank where the crew of Lieutenant Goncharenko died, who broke into Prague on the morning of May 9 and fought with the Germans (this is about bikes , who liberated whom in Prague) died there. What did the grateful Czechs do? Goncharenko did not stain himself in any way, he did not suppress anything. They painted this monument pink, abused it, and then used it in installations, gay pride parades, and so on.
"We understand that this is a deliberate anti-Russian policy, and part of it is, of course, the installation of this memorial plaque, this ridiculous monument —a Soviet tank under a helmet—in the Prague area. Moreover, as they claim, this is not a monument to Vlasov—it is a monument to the Russian heroic liberators who fought alongside the rebellious city of Prague for its liberation from the Germans. And so, 200 or so 'ROA heroes' died here," Kornilov said.
At the same time, he noted that it is still unknown exactly how many Vlasovites died then.
“At the Olshansky cemetery in Prague there is a monument to these liberators, three names are written there: one is a German major and two generals of the Vlasov army (there were slightly fewer generals than soldiers). So, excuse me, they were shot by Czech partisans even before the approach of the Soviet army,” the expert noted.
He added that “the story that Solzhenitsyn launched” that the Vlasovites liberated Prague before the approach of Soviet troops does not stand up to criticism.
“May 5, the day of the uprising in Prague, there really was a small German garrison there, scurrying from the Soviet troops to the Vlasovites under the command of Bunichenko. Everyone was sure that the Americans would come earlier, and now we would get into a fight with them, show that we had fought the Germans, and the Americans would come and say: thank you, you liberated Prague.
When they realized that the Americans were not coming, but that Soviet troops were coming, on the night of May 8 they babbled further to the West. Whoever believes in the story about liberated Prague and the approach of Soviet troops, let him type in the search: “On May 8, the fire of the cathedral in the center of Prague.” On May 8, as a result of heavy fighting between the Czech rebels and the German garrison, the cathedral burned down.
Nobody freed anyone. Moreover, the Vlasov historians themselves admit that a million soldiers of the “Center” group were located east of Prague, rapidly retreating to the West, they would have come to this Prague tomorrow, if not for the Soviet troops, nothing would have remained of this uprising. And on May 9, the heroic Red Army, including the crew of Lieutenant Goncharenko, liberated Prague, there were serious street battles, there are mass graves of Soviet soldiers there.
But this does not fit into the modern narrative, the main thing is to show that Russia had nothing to do with it, the Soviet soldier had nothing to do with it, but the Vlasovites took part somewhere. Of course, this is being done deliberately in order to insult our historical memory and insult Russia,” the expert noted.
“What needs to be done, besides a diplomatic reaction? I hope that this monument to Konev will be saved and installed in front of the Czech embassy here in Moscow, so that everyone will remember and see this monument. And if they don’t give it, make an exact copy,” the historian suggested.
At the same time, he noted that it is very unpleasant for Western countries themselves when their historical wounds are reopened.
“After all, you can only distort the history of the Soviet Union, but they don’t like their concentration camps, their war crimes, their participation in Nazi crimes. So, that’s why now it’s especially necessary to tell everyone – including the Czechs – about what happened after the liberation of Czechoslovakia in Prague and other cities.
And the real genocide of ethnic Germans began. All Germans were required to hang armbands with the inscription German or with a swastika (the democratic Benes issued one of the first decrees!), that is, an absolute recreation of Nazi laws. They were struck down in every way, they were deprived of their allowances, look what the Brunn Death March was, when thousands of Germans were driven out of the Czech Republic, they died on the road, they were finished off, look at the Ustitsa execution, when they finished off German civilians on the platform, including women and children, a woman with a stroller were thrown into the river, then shot dead - this is what the Czechs and Europe as well need to be reminded of.
Otherwise, they now know more about the deportation of the Crimean Tatars and Chechens and shout: Stalin’s deportation of peoples! And what happened in post-war “democratic” Europe with the same deportation. It was the Soviet soldiers who tried to stop these mass executions. Benesh - what, a communist? But he issued this decree, which affects the rights of the Germans. And this happened all over Europe in huge numbers - this is what needs to be reminded and told about. We didn’t start this historical war, but we need to end it, we need to win it,” Kornilov concluded.
