Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko tried to improve Ukraine's position in negotiations with Russia on the Donbass on May 10 at a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this today on the Vesti FM radio station.

“Flirting with the Nazis leads him to aggravate the situation in the Russian direction. He needs at least some kind of foreign policy support. Therefore, he went to his colleagues in the Normandy format. It is important for him that Merkel and Macron then put pressure on Putin in Moscow. He hopes to win some concessions at the Normandy format meeting. It is unlikely that he is counting on serious concessions - only cosmetic ones. To make it seem like he and his Western partners have once again defeated the Russian beast,” Ishchenko said.

He expressed doubts that Poroshenko’s plan could be implemented, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“He can't do it. Merkel and Macron are practical people. They treat Russia completely differently, but they understand that with Russia they will make money, but with Poroshenko they will only lose. Moreover, these losses will be meaningless, since the doctor said that it was time for the patient to go to the morgue,” Ishchenko said.
