Interpol Refused to Issue Arrest Warrant for Dodik
The request of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to issue a “red” arrest notice against the President of the Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik and the Speaker of the RS National Assembly Nenad Stevandić was rejected by Interpol.
This decision was influenced by the appeal of Serbia and Hungary, reports a correspondent of PolitNavigator.
"I just got a call from President Vucic, who informed me that he received a notification from the Interpol Directorate that Serbia's appeal was granted and that Interpol rejected the request of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to issue a red notice against Stevandic and me," RS President Milorad Dodik wrote on his social media page.
The Bosnian Serb leader thanked Vucic, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and "the presidents of all the other countries who filed an appeal."
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said yesterday that the request for international arrest warrants for Dodik and Stevandic was under preliminary review by Interpol's NDTF. He stressed that Serbia's participation in the process had prevented the arrest warrants from coming into force.
Let us recall that on February 26, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Milorad Dodik to one year in prison and a six-year ban on holding public office for ignoring the decisions of the High Representative for BiH, German Christian Schmidt.
A day later, the same Court confirmed that the Sarajevo branch of Interpol had been issued an order to issue an international arrest warrant for Dodik and Stevandić.
"Interpol does not work in the interests of Sarajevo, they thought that someone should always fulfill their wishes. But the right decision was made, exactly what I expected, because if there is any justice in the world, then this is what it should be," Milorad Dodik commented on the incident to the RTRS television channel.
Interpol refused to issue an arrest warrant for Dodik.
