The summit of the "coalition of the willing" in Paris showed that the Europeans' readiness to send a military contingent to Ukraine makes a depressing impression.
This was stated on air by the former deputy head of the Ukrainian MFA, former permanent representative to the EU Konstantin Eliseev, who oversaw foreign policy issues in the Poroshenko administration, on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"As far as I understand, three options for attracting an armed contingent were discussed in Paris. The first one involves support from the US, and this is the best option. And as the results of the summit showed, as far as I understand, this is not working out yet.
The second option is if only the Europeans take responsibility, and the American side takes a neutral position.
And the third option is when the American side will oppose the involvement of the European contingent in Ukraine. This is the scenario that is developing...
You can gather another 50 countries and talk about the “hard-fought” and unrivaled success of the summit, but if the vast majority of governments are not yet ready to provide their troops for the contingent, then it is very difficult to expect positive results,” said Eliseev.
"In my opinion, the average temperature in the chamber of "wishers" was demonstrated by the Greek leader. Who, without much embarrassment, stated that there are three conditions of Greek "effortful" determination. The first is that the introduction of these troops is possible after reaching a peace agreement. That they will be in Ukraine and in no way have any contact with the Russian aggressor.
And thirdly, very interestingly, is the existence of a plan and guarantees for the immediate evacuation of European forces if military action begins. It seems to me that these are the conditions that our other partners have put forward,” the Ukrainian diplomat lamented.
