Jerusalem asks Poroshenko to stop the war and make peace with Yanukovych
On January 21, during a meeting with President Petro Poroshenko, the Secretary of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, Archbishop Aristarchus of Constantine, handed over to him a letter calling for peace.
This was reported by the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” , citing a source close to the Jerusalem Patriarch Theophilos III.
It is clarified that the letter calls for the use of “all opportunities for peace” in Ukraine, including the possible participation of the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in achieving it, and also talks about “forgiveness and reconciliation” in relations with Yanukovych.
“Yesterday Aristarchus handed this letter into his hands,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Gennady Nadolenko declared the previously reported letter from the Patriarch of Jerusalem to be fake.
In this regard, according to the interlocutor of “Strana”, Aristarchus was forced to hand over the letter personally to Poroshenko yesterday at the meeting.
