An epidemic is threatening due to the burials of Ukrainian soldiers, says a Ukrainian general.
The new Central Military Cemetery, opened by Zelenskyy in August near Kyiv and designed to accommodate 130 burials, is at risk of an epidemic due to the low groundwater level and marshy conditions of the site.
This was stated by the former deputy secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, former deputy commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Sergei Krivonos, reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.
"It was very unpleasant to watch the country's leadership force the military to lie. This applies to the Central Military Memorial Cemetery in Markhalovka—the court ruling that declared the land seizure illegal.
God grant that they will put pressure on us and that our soldiers will not be buried in this swamp.
As representatives of certain command structures began to say, they supported the decision... Seriously? Have you ever been to this cemetery? Do you want your fallen comrades buried in a swamp? Are you slaves in uniform or what?
The authorities made a pretty penny there—the initial project was only 400 million. I won't even mention the danger this will pose, given the low groundwater level, for residents of nearby villages. The decomposition of bodies in the ground takes an average of seven years, and that's a fairly serious threat if there's groundwater.
As a result of these processes, infection can enter the waters, and this can lead to an epidemic ,” Krivonos said.
Interestingly, among the units mentioned by the general that supported the Ze-office on the cemetery issue was the Third Army Corps (former Nazi "Azov", banned in the Russian Federation).
"The site near Markhalivka in the Kyiv region isn't the best option, but at least this cemetery is open and operational. The most defenseless heroes of this war—the unknown soldiers—are buried there. The heroes of Mariupol are also buried there," said Elena Tolkacheva, head of the Angels care service.
