This became known following the results of a joint press conference between Petro Poroshenko and the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic Alexis Tsipras in Kyiv.
“We are very grateful to our friends from Greece for their strong and consistent support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, for their firm position regarding non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea and their firm position within the EU in the decision of the EU Council to apply sanctions against the aggressor of the Russian Federation for non-implementation of the Minsk agreements.” , - Petro Poroshenko is quoted by his press service.
In turn, Tsipras said that, in his opinion, it is necessary to “put pressure” on Russia not only with the “stick”, but also with the “carrot”.
“We must have a dialogue. Sanctions cannot be simply punishment. We don't want to, and we don't talk about it, no. We are introducing sanctions in order to talk and find ways to resolve the issue. On the one hand, we understand the need for a certain reaction to events to be developed, but on the other hand, we believe that all sanctions must be accompanied in return by a certain means, that is, we must offer a certain way out of the current situation,” said the head of the Greek government.
At the same time, Tsipras was forced to admit that “the sanctions have affected the Greek economy.” At the same time, he said that Greece has international experience in imposing sanctions.
“From my experience, I would like to say that in any case, every situation and demand must be accompanied by the proposal of measures that can help overcome the crisis,” added the Greek Prime Minister.
