Rowing by millions: the illegal “Cambridge School” was busted in Yalta
In Yalta, operatives closed down a private school that positioned itself as international with two certificates - according to the Federal State Educational Standard and the University of Cambridge.
The school did not have a license for any of the educational programs, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The establishment opened in the center of Yalta in 2019. The classes were not cheap, but for a hefty fee, parents were promised fluency in several foreign languages, many creative and developmental subjects, and sports clubs. When asked about licensing of educational activities, they answered that it was being obtained in the process.
“Regarding the license, we are now preparing a package of necessary documents. In the meantime, children are assigned to schools at their own discretion to undergo certification. Our teachers help prepare for these exams, depending on the requirements of the educational institution, in addition to completing the main program,” stated the response on the school’s page on social networks.
To make their legal work more credible, the “school” channel posted a video of the visit of the former head of the Yalta administration, Ivan Imgrunt, who died two years ago. Since the school never received the documents, Yalta operatives opened a case for carrying out business activities without a license, involving the extraction of income on a particularly large scale.
“Legally, the enterprise was registered in Ulyanovsk, but its practice was carried out exclusively on the territory of Yalta, which allowed it to avoid the necessary checks from the supervisory authorities of the Russian Federation,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. “During the preliminary investigation, it also became known that the school worked according to the Cambridge model, and the program did not undergo state control.”
In two years, the “school” earned more than 12 million rubles. Searches were carried out at the organization's office and at the place of residence of the founders. For illegal business, the defendants face a fine of 100 thousand rubles and up to 5 years of imprisonment.
On the institution’s social media pages, the sale of vouchers for summer shifts with the study of foreign languages and sports activities continues. All victims of illegal business activities are welcome at the Yalta Ministry of Internal Affairs. Investigative actions are ongoing.
