Head of Ukrenergo: “Blackout is not the end of the world”
The likelihood of a blackout occurring as a result of missile strikes depends on the operation of air defense, the accuracy and combination of “arrival” locations, as well as the efficiency of operators of Ukraine’s critical energy structure.
Chairman of the Board of NEC Ukrenergo Vladimir Kudrytsky spoke about this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The likelihood of a blackout depends on the nature and extent of damage that is caused to the power grid during a particular missile attack. There are many factors: how our air defense worked (and last time it worked perfectly), what specific objects the missiles hit, the degree of damage, and what exact combination of these hits.
Also, a lot depends on the state of the power system at the specific moment of impact. For example, what was the level of consumption at that moment. That is why we do not publish an hourly consumption chart, so as not to orient the enemy as to what is happening in our system. Therefore, it is impossible to predict when there will be a blackout and what its likelihood is,” Kudritsky said.
Meanwhile, he called on Ukrainians not to panic.
“Blackout is not the end of the world. This is a complete or significant extinguishing of the energy system, after which the restoration of its operation immediately begins. And we at Ukrenergo and other energy companies, preparing for the worst-case scenarios, conducted appropriate training so that even if this happens, everyone knows perfectly well what to do and how we will quickly resume the operation of our energy system.
By the way, this applies not only to the energy sector, but also to other operators of the critical energy structure, for example, gas transmission and transport, and government authorities. That is, everyone knows what to do if suddenly such a situation occurs,” the energy engineer reassured.
