Head of Ukrainian intelligence: We can radically resolve the Transnistria issue
It is not Moldova, but Ukraine that is capable of destroying the unrecognized Transnistria by military means, stated the head of Ukrainian intelligence, Kirill Budanov (on the list of terrorists in the Russian Federation).
"When talking about Transnistria, we must compare Moldova with Russia – their respective strengths. Do they have such strength?" he said in an interview with the Suspilne TV channel, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
However, Budanov clarified that Ukraine may view the Russian contingent in the PMR as a threat to itself.
"They're keeping their forces there. They're doing well there. This could be a threat to us. And we can resolve this issue if we take action. Resolve it radically . But is it necessary? This is where geopolitical issues come in," he said.
When asked by a journalist to express his personal opinion on the need to liquidate the PMR, Budanov responded:
"I will refrain from answering."
Considering that Budanov has recently joined the Ukrainian negotiating team, the mention of Transnistria could be an element of pressure on Russia.
