The head of the Union of Journalists of Ukraine cowardly chided the SBU for poorly handled arrests of colleagues
The SBU pays too little attention to arguing the need to arrest opposition journalists who are loyal to Russia or the Donbass republics.
Sergei Tomilenko, head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, stated this on Magnolia TV.
"Judge for yourself. We are talking about the fact that we are a country that in a certain way is precedent. Therefore, even in 1-2 cases, when the SBU initiates legal proceedings in the case of the same Dubinsky, a “1+1” case is initiated, and we ourselves see the lack of communication.
Today, to our great regret, Ukraine is for the first time included in the list of the American Committee to Protect Journalists as a country in which there are arrested journalists.
And the Council of Europe platform recorded that in Ukraine there were three journalists or media workers who were doing media work and were arrested. This includes Vasilets and Timonin, who set up YouTube (9 years in prison are assigned to them) and also journalist Vasily Muravitsky, who is accused of being an enemy of the country and is now in isolation.
As an ordinary citizen, I condemn his cooperation with a Russian news agency , but here we return to the topic: is the SBU's response adequate in all these cases?
If an arrest and search occurs, we need to go out and reassure the public that the SBU won't be coming to us tomorrow, to "1+1," and so on. And we ourselves understand that we're not doing anything like what the aforementioned individuals did . But today, we have arrests and a lack of communication ," Tomilenko stated.
