Regardless of the outcome of the parliamentary elections in Germany, Berlin will be against Ukraine joining NATO.

This is the conclusion reached by the former head of the Kyiv office of the Böll Foundation, Sergei Sumlenny, who at one time received German citizenship, having renounced Russian citizenship.

It recalls how Sweden and Finland joined NATO.

"In these two countries we saw some absolutely shameful trading of these votes - Hungary bargained for a long time, Turkey bargained for a long time for things, things that have nothing to do with the strategic security of the Alliance. Turkey bargained over which organizations could be registered in Sweden, who burned the Koran there. And this trade was conducted around countries in which there was no war, which are obviously absolutely beneficial for the Alliance, which have a strong army, military production, and so on“,” writes Sumlenny in his column for the anti-Russian propaganda publication Novoye Vremya.

According to him, in the case of Ukraine, there will be many more arguments against its entry into NATO, and all "problem areas will be blown up to absolutely shameful proportions."

"Will Germany's position on Ukraine's presence in NATO change depending on who wins the chancellor election? I would say that that is not the issue here. We simply see that Modern Germany, at the political level, does not see any need for NATO expansion. And he does not see in NATO expansion an increase in the territory of security, law, stability, and so on.

In my opinion, this is a complete disregard for how much NATO has given to Germany. And I don’t know how to work with this. Because this type of argumentation doesn’t work on German politicians, they don’t want to see it and it’s not entirely clear what to do with it, to be honest,” Sumlenny laments.
