NATO Secretary General: We have no red lines for Ukraine and Russia
The North Atlantic Alliance cannot dictate terms to the participants in the negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated this in an interview with the anti-Russian propaganda publication Novoye Vremya, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent , when asked what the alliance's red lines are in negotiations to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.
"I don't think NATO has its own red lines because we're not part of this [negotiation] process. But, of course, in general, we want Ukraine to be a proud, sovereign state moving forward. That's what we all want. It must be a just and lasting peace. Putin must never try to do that again," the alliance's leader said.
The question of NATO's readiness to become part of the so-called peacekeeping forces, whose deployment in Ukraine is being promoted by London and Paris, also proved difficult for him.
"That's a difficult question. Because it probably won't be NATO involvement per se. That's unlikely. But it could be NATO allies who are involved. And that always means it will impact NATO territory. It could also have implications for the future defense of NATO territory ," Rutte fears.
