Gazprom will present Vučić with a choice: cheap gas or continue to please the West

Gazprom's stake in the Serbian oil company NIS, which is subject to sanctions, may be acquired by the Hungarian company MOL.

Leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov stated this in an interview with the PolitWera YouTube channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"The Hungarian company MOL could buy out Gazprom and Gazpromneft's stake in NIS. It would then be interested in building a direct oil pipeline from Hungary to Serbia. This was discussed in 2022, but nothing has been done yet, even though only about 100 kilometers remain to be built—and thus, the company would be independent of Croatia," Yushkov said.

He believes that this is precisely what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban negotiated during his visit to Moscow.

If the Serbian president insists on nationalizing NIS (an option the West is forcing on him), then he should forget about cheap gas.

"And so we are hinting that if the Serbian leadership wants to stop sitting on two chairs: and move to the pro-Western chair – and spoil relations with Russia, then don’t forget that we are also selling you gas at a 40% discount.

“That’s why Gazprom didn’t extend the supply contract until May 2026, as Serbia requested, but only until December 31,” Yushkov said.

Currently, NIS refineries are shut down because Croatia has refused to pump oil arriving at its ports to them.
